What is Ziwig Endotest?
A simple saliva sample. Advanced molecular analysis.
Ziwig Endotest® is an in-vitro diagnostic medical device used on medical prescription. It analyses a pattern of salivary microRNAs using next-generation sequencing and artificial intelligence.
The test is intended to help confirm or rule out endometriosis with a high degree of reliability, particularly when symptoms suggest endometriosis and imaging is normal, unclear or has not provided a complete explanation.
It does not replace a clinical consultation, pelvic imaging or specialist review where these are required. Your clinician will interpret the result in the context of your symptoms and medical history.

Symptoms and suitability
Could endometriosis be contributing to your symptoms?
Endometriosis symptoms vary widely and can overlap with other conditions. The presence of symptoms does not confirm endometriosis, but it may warrant clinical assessment.
Who may be suitable
- Patients aged 18–43 with one or more symptoms suggestive of endometriosis.
- Patients taking hormonal treatment; the test can still be performed.
- Testing can be performed at any point in the menstrual cycle.
- Patients whose symptoms require further assessment after normal or equivocal imaging.
When testing may not be suitable
- Current pregnancy.
- A medical history of cancer or HIV.
- An active infection at the time of saliva collection.
- Contamination of the sample by blood, nasal secretions, food, toothpaste, lipstick, tobacco or chewing gum.
- Any other contraindication identified during your medical consultation.

Frequently asked questions
Helpful information before booking.
Is Ziwig Endotest® a replacement for ultrasound or laparoscopy?
No. It is an additional diagnostic tool. Ultrasound remains important for evaluating pelvic anatomy and identifying some forms of endometriosis or other causes of symptoms. Further investigation may still be advised based on your clinical findings.
Can I take the test while using hormonal contraception or treatment?
According to the manufacturer, the test may be performed while using hormonal treatment. Your clinician will confirm suitability during your consultation.
Does the test have to be performed on a particular day of my cycle?
No. Manufacturer information states that it can be performed at any time during the menstrual cycle.
What happens if my result is positive?
Your clinician will discuss what the result means in the context of your symptoms and recommend the appropriate next steps. These may include treatment, imaging, specialist review or further investigation.
What happens if my result is negative?
A negative result is interpreted together with your medical history and clinical findings. Persistent or concerning symptoms may still require assessment for other gynaecological, gastrointestinal, urinary or musculoskeletal causes.
How quickly will I receive my result?
Laboratory turnaround can vary. The clinic will advise you of the expected timeframe and how your result will be communicated.
